about our practice…
Fields of Architecture is a Hampshire based Architecture practice located on the edge of the New Forest National Park. The practice was established in 2016 by Lucy and Dale Whitfield, and is committed to the creation of sustainable and contemporary architecture across the south of England. Given our flexible workflow, we can offer a virtual experience that has allowed us to complete projects throughout the UK.
Collectively we have over 20 years of experience working across commercial and residential projects of various scales. Previous projects include internal refurbishments, extensions, barn conversions, listed buildings, newly built houses, housing developments, and even apartment buildings
Fields of Architecture is a practice that aspires to deliver successful and contemporary designs, whilst providing a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and youth to any project of any size.
Lucy
Architect
BA(Hons) Arch, M.Arch, PgDip Arch, ARB
Lucy is a qualified architect with over 7 years of experience working in an architectural practice. She began her studies at the Arts University Bournemouth, undertaking her Undergraduate degree and then returned to complete her Master’s degree, where she met Dale. In 2018 she finished her RIBA Part 3 qualification at Kingston University, becoming an ARB registered Architect.
Lucy has worked with a medium sized architecture practice for most of her career undertaking projects mainly in private and commercial residential. She has an extensive portfolio within residential developments, community buildings, sports complexes, barn conversions, extensions and new build houses. She is dedicated to delivering responsive design that reacts to site restraints, client expectations and environmental pressures. She is interested in both contemporary and traditional design and usually aspires to deliver a middle ground that responds to both current times and local vernacular.
Lucy also has a lot of experience in business marketing and has built a number of websites for both previous practices and Fields of Architecture. She is responsible for maintaining the practice website and recording site progress of her and Dale’s DIY renovation on Instagram. As she is from a DIY family, she gets stuck into all types of DIY projects and can often be found up a ladder, on the roof or holding something in place! She also has a great interest in interior design and spends a lot of her time sourcing samples and collating the final vision.
Dale
Architect

Dale is a qualified architect with over 7 years of experience working in an architectural practice. He began studying to become an Architect at Plymouth University completing his Undergraduate degree and went on to complete his Master’s degree at the Arts University Bournemouth. He also finished his RIBA Part 3 qualification at Kingston University in 2018, and became an ARB registered Architect.
Dale has worked as an Architect across a number of practices, both large and small, throughout the south of England. His main interest is within private residential architecture and has previously worked on a wide variety of internal refurbishments, extensions, barn conversions, listed buildings, new build houses, apartment buildings, and hotels. Dale has a keen interest in contemporary design, and given the current environmental crisis, is a strong believer in high performing and sustainable solutions, preferably that which utilises natural resources and has a low carbon footprint.
He has also undertaken building work at his own property & on-site which has developed considerable skill and knowledge within general building, carpentry, and electrical and plumbing works. With this experience, he has an extensive capability to design practical architecture that centred around both aesthetics and buildability.
Alongside the above, Dale is also passionate about small business management, and is ambitious to continue developing his DIY skills someday combining them to become a hybrid Architect-Builder!
